Yarmouth, NS – The 35th edition of the Eastern Canadian Fisheries Exposition wrapped up a successful two-day event at Yarmouth’s Mariner’s Centre on Saturday. Presented in partnership with The Navigator Magazine, this extensive showcase welcomed 4,274 commercial fishing professionals over the course of the event in what was an excellent return to Yarmouth after a 4-year hiatus. Once again, this event had an overwhelming impact on the city where the commercial fishing is so important – evident by sold out hotels and bustling restaurants and shops throughout.

“Many exhibitors reported making sales on the show floor and we’re very happy with the quality of the attendance” said Show Manager, Shawn Murphy. “This was a great event for suppliers, association, stakeholders, fish processors, workboat operators and fisherman to network and discover what is new on the market”

Several features of the show kept attendees busy throughout Friday and Saturday. On Friday evening, a special networking reception was held at the Rodd Grand with exhibitors alongside local seafood suppliers and processors. A huge thanks goes out to the support from seafood donors from throughout Southwestern Nova Scotia – the reception was a hit amongst all and a highlight for the event. This reception would not be possible without the following donors:

• Acadian Fish Processors
• Comeau Seafoods
• Clearwater Seafoods
• Cooke Aquaculture
• Hervic Enterprises Ltd.
• Inshore Fisheries Ltd.
• Newell Lobster Ltd.
• Nova Finest Fisheries
• R&K Murphy
• RBN Fisheries Ltd.
• Rockville Carriers
• Wm. R. Murphy Fisheries
• Woods Harbour Lobster

On Friday, the Atlantic Canada Marine Hall of Fame welcomed three new inductees. Awards were given in three respective categories: Mariner, recognizing individuals who work or have worked on the water in any marine industry; Processor, recognizing individuals involved in the business of processing, from line workers to company owners; and Builder, recognizing those who have made contributions without having directly participated.

Congratulation to the new Hall of Fame members!

• Penny Graham from Brier Island, Nova Scotia (Mariner)
• Terry Zinck from Clark’s Harbour, Nova Scotia (Processor)
• Bruce Atkinson from Clark’s Harbour, Nova Scotia (Builder)

Visitors were encouraged to enter for a chance to win one of the door prizes upon entrance to the show. Congratulations to Ryan Atwood, winner of the Helly Hansen prize and Amy Nickerson, winner of the Maritime Marine supply prize.
